If you're anything like me, you were a total heartbroken mess when Chip and Joanna Gaines announced that "Fixer Upper" (the best show on tv) is going into retirement. BOOOO..... For a home improvement show, they most certainly made a huge impression of many lives, businesses and families. I will say that the show, and their business concept, made a major impression on me. It has certainly effected the choices I've made while getting this baby off the ground, and helps to steer me in the choices I'm making for my business.
So yes, this is a blog about bridal and prom and fanciness... BUT, at this very moment. It's about construction too. A LOT of construction. I bought an old house. Not from 1980 but from 1880. Which makes it 136 years old! It is absolutely beautiful and has charm and beauty that is endless. Although it needs to be modernized, I am very intent on keeping as many of the old world characteristics as possible. I am collaborating with some fantastic people that share my vision, and are working to make this bridal store a destination shopping experience for people from all over Iowa, Minnesota and more! I can't WAIT for you to see it!
We are taking advantage of the 19th century architecture, but performing quite a few cosmetic upgrades. Although some of the flooring is original and gorgeous, much of it needs to be improved. The whole interior is seeing a fresh coat of paint, some interior shiplap walls are being installed, new light fixtures, a safer walkway is being poured (TODAY! YAY!), and we are changing the entryway to the store to improve the flow and accommodate those that might find stairs and a narrow doorway challenging. Other not so fun upgrades were made as well, including a roof, electrical upgrades, etc. Every day something new is checked off the list, and it's finally starting to come together. We still hope to open sometime next month!
The store is being designed with hospitality and service top of mind. The bridal fitting suites are large private rooms in which a bride can bring her entire entourage and indulge in the wedding dress shopping experience. White washed floors, and floor to ceiling velvet curtains will surround you. Your guests can rest in comfortable seating, and take in light refreshments while watching you fall in love with your perfect dress. Our prom and tuxedo customers will have their own space to shop and try on merchandise in "Mara's Studio", located on the property. Imagine a bright, white loft-like space filled with AMAZING dresses from new and unique designers. Your own music, your own dresses, your own store. And surrounded by.. you guessed it.. SHIPLAP!
In OTHER news! Last week, I traveled to Chicago for the National Bridal Market. This is seriously Heaven on Earth (for someone like me :). One of my closest friends embarked on this adventure with me, and I am not kidding when I say - Mara is going to be something special. We worked from sun-up to sun-down combing through the most beautiful dresses in the world. Choosing the pieces that we feel, our clients will totally swoon for. From bridal, to prom, to bridesmaids, tuxedos, mothers, shoes, veils, tiaras, and jewelry. AHHHH!!! Goosies! Inventory is barely starting to trickle in... we can't wait to share these beauties with you.
There's so much more, but I'll save it for another post. Thanks again for following along with us on this journey. Til next time!
